The king of the jungle - The lion

the lion, the king of the jungle, the model of courage, strength and power, the king of the pride. In this article we will talk more about the lion and it's characteristics. I am not really a cat lover, but I must admit that the lion is a cool animal.

 WHAT ARE LIONS?

The lion is a big cat of genus panthera. It is indegenous to Africa and India. It is well known for it's mane. The lion is a very muscular animal, little wonder why it is so strong. It is sexually dimorphic which means that the two sexes, male and female, exhibit different characteristics. Like the lion has a mane and the lioness has none. The lion is of the family FELIDAE, order CANIVORA and KINGDOM ANIMALIA.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A  LION

Male lions weigh about 300-570 pounds, while the females weigh about 270-400 pounds. Lions naturally are carnivores, which means they love to eat meat. If you observe lions do not eat other carnivores, they eat herbivores, that is animals that eat vegetation like as we all know, animals like zebras and Antelopes. In a situation where the lion has no other food to eat it may eat dead meat. It may even be the carcass of a fellow carnivore. The length of a lion is about 5.6 and 8.3 feet, while the lioness is about 4.6 and 5.7 feet.

       Is all this the reason why they are so brave? Well I didn't know that, but I would love to be as brave as the lion. Would you?

But wait cats are afraid of water aren't they? So why are lions not afraid of water? Well the thing is, lions live in warmer or hotter climates, so they need to keep cool just like hippos like to keep cool. What a cool animal
